Sports and Leisure Industries - Level 1 Certificate and Level 2 Diploma
What do these courses offer?
The Certificate and Diploma in Sport and Leisure provide entry and underpinning knowledge for those who have or are seeking to begin a career in the sport and leisure industry. The Diploma providing a natural progression from the Certificate and enables successful students to move onto the Level 3 qualification.
What will I study?
All levels contain compulsory and optional units incorporating the following subjects:
Level 1 (Certificate)
Units to be studied
· Introduction to the sport and leisure industry · Introduction to working with customers and colleagues in the sport and leisure industry · Follow safe working practices in the sport and leisure industry · Introduction to health, lifestyle and the human body · Assist in the planning, delivery and evaluation of sports and leisure activities · Introduction to sport · Introduction to exercise and fitness
Level 2 (Diploma)
Units to be studied
· Introduction to working in the sport and leisure industry · Establishing effective relationships with customers and colleagues in the sport and leisure industry · Maintaining safe working environment in the sport and leisure industry · Physical and mental aspects of performance in sport and leisure · Introduction to working in land based outdoor adventure · Introduction to working in health, exercise and fitness · Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing (City and Guilds) . It is a nationally recognised qualification also recognised by REPs (The Register of Exercise Professionals). It is not a stand alone qualification. It is part of the existing qualification *above. Students will have to pass both qualification to achieve the Full Gym Instructor Qualification.
Key Skills
Through your studies you will be given the opportunity to improve and receive certification of your key skills in Communication or Application of Numbers. Note that key skills, which are compulsory, are nationally recognised qualifications that will not only improve your employability skills but they may also assist your university application by attracting, additional UCAS points.
What entry qualifications will I need?
The course structure allows continuous progression with successful completion of each level and an interview before acceptance onto the next level. Previously obtained or additional qualifications and experience will be taken into consideration during applications.
Level 1 : No qualifications are required, just an interest in the Sport and Leisure industry and a strong desire to succeed. A satisfactory school reference which includes information on attendance and classroom behaviour must be obtained.
Level 2 : 3 GCSE grade D or completion of a level 1 programme or relevant qualification. A satisfactory school reference which includes information on attendance and classroom behaviour must be obtained.
How long is the programme?
Level 1 1 year, attendance may be required for up to 5 days a week. Level 2 1 year, attendance may be required for up to 5 days a week We expect 100% attendance and punctuality.
How will I be assessed?
Level 1 Successful completion of 5 mandatory units plus 2 optional units
Level 2 Successful completion of 4 mandatory units plus 2 optional units
There is a combination of coursework assessment, practical skills assessments and externally set examinations.
