SPORT BTEC NATIONAL DIPLOMA IN
The nationally recognised BTEC Sports qualifications equip you with a range of skills and experience in the sport and fitness field. They are suitable for entry into Higher Education, careers in leisure and fitness industries, sports development, sports science, the public services and Physical Education teaching.
What Will I Learn ? The course is over two years and consists of 18 units for the National Diploma. It is equivalent to 3 A Levels. The availble pathway is:
i) Sports Development and Fitness
You will study such topics as exercise physiology, practical sport, coaching, and health and safety. Options vary but may include working with children, technology and sport, research activities, sport for special populations, sport massage and therapy.
How Will I Learn ? There's a mix of lectures, group work, individual research, practical workshops, practical sport, group discussions, presentations and tutorials - and we take into account students' individual learning styles.
How Will I Be Assessed ? This varies with each unit. Some are externally assessed through an integrated assignment, others are internally assessed, but the key point is that you're assessed over a period of time and you build up your credits for a final overall grade: Pass, Merit or Distinction.
Any Special Entry Requirements ? You need at least 4 GCSE passes at Grade C and above, including Maths and English or a BTEC First in Sport or related discipline or a GNVQ Intermediate in Science or Leisure and Tourism.
The college boasts excellent facilities, both for developing sports skills and for fitness measurement and development. There's a large sports hall, exercise studio and fitness suite, together with expert technical support. Specialist staff have expertise in a range of sporting activities - indoor and outdoor, and including water sports.
Are you an elite athlete? If so, we can provide support in a range of ways: free membership of the fitness suite, practical support for your training schedule - and you may be eligible for one of our 500 sporting excellence awards.
You will need to purchase college PE kit when you sign up to the programme. There is a residental in the Summer Term with an approximate cost of 100.
What Could I Do At The End Of The Course ? Some gain employment in sport and leisure occupations, but the majority of students progress to university and study for a degree in a sport-related field of their choice.
