About the course This foundation degree enables students to grasp a thorough understanding of three core subjects: anatomy and physiology, nutrition and sport psychology and then allows specialism in sports coaching. As part of this course students will complete work experience and project-related unit which require the completion of a minimum of hours of work experience per year. Alongside the formal qualification, this foundation degree embeds commercially-recognised qualifications such as CYQ awards in fitness instructing, personal training, circuit training, sports conditioning and opportunities to achieve a range of level 1 coaching qualifications as well as the level 2 award in coaching studies. The industry-recognised qualifications make this course distinctive and provides the students with the opportunity to find direct employment that can be both employ.

About this course

A foundation degree will be of particular interest if you have completed a Modern Apprenticeship, vocational A levels, BTEC National or equivalent. Foundation degrees are also particularly suitable if you want to qualify while working. / entry As a guideline, a typical offer would require you to obtain a UCAS tariff score of between points, based on your level 3 studies. Many students studying for foundation degrees come to us through work-based routes so you can apply for a foundation degree even if you don't have traditional academic qualifications. .

Since London sport has been at the heart of the nations plans for a lasting legacy with a primary focus placed on improving grassroots sports participation in communities, giving elite athletes every chance to succeed at the highest level and creating a sporting habit for life in young people. The promotion of sport and exercise is also a core part of the governments strategies to improve the health of the nation (Ellison, ) and consequently there can be no more appropriate time to begin a career in Sports Coaching. Our bespoke course in Sports Science (Sports Coaching) develops an underpinning knowledge of Sport Psychology and Anatomy and Physiology alongside vocational specific units that actively prepare you for a career in Sports Coaching. The course offers a mixture of practical, scientific, technical and business principles of learning to underpin a career in the sports industry by combining theory and practice together with the necessary skills required to be successful in the workplace. By applying such principles in a vocational context and understanding the appropriate methods of enquiry for this subject area you will gain a thorough understanding of the field and will enhance your employability skills. Alongside the formal qualification, you will be given the opportunity to gain a selection of Level 1 Coaching qualifications within your coaching units that will aid your transition into the workplace. You will also be given the opportunity to obtain extra qualifications in additional, optional sessions and pay a registration fee if you wish to complete these as additional industry qualifications. These include: the YMCA Level 2 Award in Instructing Circuit Training Sessions, First Aid Qualification, Level 2 Award in Coaching Studies and Level 3 Award in Sports Conditioning. During Level 4 (first year) study there will also be an opportunity to complete an additional, optional full price week teaching qualification in the evenings: City and Guilds Level 3 Award in Education and Training (formerly PTLLS). During level 5 study (year 2) there will be an opportunity to complete an additional, optional full price week teaching qualification in the evenings: Level 4 Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (CTLLS).
