Jenny Timms
Glass Artist
Jenny first discovered her interest in light and colour while at Art College. She is influenced by a range of artistic and natural themes, ranging from the Cubist and De Stijl movements of the early 1900s to abstract expressions and natural or man-made landscapes.
Mike Caddy
Glass Artist
After working in a number of technology-related industries, the opportunity to develop a more visually creative interest began when he and Jenny saw examples of modern stained glass at Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral. Mike’s pieces often have an abstract feel, exploiting colour, texture and light.
Course programme
Registration - welcome, tea or coffee, and a safety briefing
We start out by looking at the basic processes and tools we'll be using:
- Students then practice cutting and breaking glass.
- Then we move on to grinding the cut glass ready for foiling.
- Using the hand foiling method and perhaps one of the tools too if we're all getting confident, we'll foil the glass ready for...
- Soldering!
At temperatures up to 380 Deg.C we'll solder our piece with the most-commonly used solder types.
When we're all ready for a break, we'll have lunch and a bit of fresh air!
In the afternoon, students work on a project piece which they'll finish in time to take home!
We'll provide you with a choice of designs (similar to ones we sell for about £50) and a selection of glass to work with.
With a maximum of 6 students and 2 tutors students benefit from as much attention and supervision as they need.
