Our BSc Statistics and Economics brings together the disciplines of statistics and operational research with applications in economics and finance. It encourages a systematic approach to problem-solving and focuses on the collection, presentation and interpretation of data. It is suited to those working in the financial sector or for statistical careers in commerce, industry, medicine, transport, government and education.
The first year of the programme consists of compulsory courses, in order to provide a common base for further study. In the second, third and fourth years there will be a mix of compulsory and optional courses. For the options you can choose whichever interest you most, and in that way tailor the degree to match and develop your interests.
Training in the mathematical and statistical sciences is highly valued by employers. Graduates in these subjects are in great demand and earn on average 10% more than other graduates. Around 35% have jobs in business or finance, with the next most popular choice being teaching, at around 10%.

About this course
Graduates can pursue careers in data collection, research and analysis, economics or modelling and forecasting. This degree may also be useful in becoming a statistician, economist, chartered accountant, financial risk analyst or civil service fast-streamer.
