Statistics - A and AS Levels

What are the main features of this course?
The first year is the AS level course, which allows students the opportunity to become acquainted with the initial concepts in statistics. Students can develop these concepts further by continuing into the second year and achieving the full A level qualification. In statistics, probability, regression and correlation, sampling, hypothesis testing and a variety of distributions are studied.
The use of information technology is integral to the course. All students will be issued with textbooks. Students are regularly assessed using examination standard questions and past examination papers. Students require a scientific calculator.

How is the course assessed?
The course is modular with three modules examined in both the first year and the second year.

Who should study this course?
It is a particularly appropriate course for students studying the sciences or subjects such as psychology, sociology or business studies. Students are required to have at least a Grade C in GCSE Mathematics; equivalent qualifications will be considered escpecially from mature and overseas students. It would be appropropriate for those students who wish to continue with their mathematics but who find algebra particularly challenging. Students may be admitted on to the second year of the course as long as they have satisfactory evidence of completion of the first year on an AS level course.
