Our Graduate Diploma in Statistics introduces you to the methods and practical implementation of statistical analysis, firmly grounded within the context of the underlying statistical theory and associated mathematics.
The Graduate Diploma in Statistics is particularly suitable for those who are looking to upskill quickly in the theoretical underpinnings and practical implementation of the kinds of statistical analyses that are often required in the practice of data science, but who are not yet ready to begin a Postgraduate Certificate or Master's programme.
It will give you the confidence to ask the right questions when presented with a statistical analysis, and to carry out such an analysis by yourself using a high-level statistical programming language.
The philosophy that underpins the training given on this programme is that of being both rigorous and applied.

About this course
You will gain an understanding of some of the main statistical methods that are used in data science, such as simple experimental design and analysis, multiple linear regression, logistic, and more generally, dichotomous, regression, and log-linear modelling for contingency table analysis. You will also be able to apply these techniques to the analysis of real-world data sets and gain a thorough grounding in the use of R.
Graduates can pursue careers in data collection, research, and analysis, modelling and forecasting. Possible professions include statistician, operational researcher, or research scientist (maths). This degree may also be useful in becoming a forensic statistician or higher education lecturer.
An undergraduate degree in any subject, plus A-level mathematics (or equivalent), or at least 60% in the Birkbeck module Calculus 1 (studied as an affiliate student).
