    1 Day

This training programme is delivered in English.

This 1-day Strain/Counterstrain (also called Positional Release) advanced technique course is for Bodywork, Massage and/or Aromatherapists who wish to add this consistently reliable and effective technique to their skill base, with the additional advantage to the therapist of requiring less exertion than many other modalities.

Counter-strain is a form of manual manipulative therapy that uses an indirect means of passively positioning a painful or restricted joint or muscle to relieve pain and mechanical dysfunction.

As its name implies, it counters the results of the initial strain on the body and is one of the most gentle and powerful manual techniques currently employed in the field of rehabilitation.

Strain/Counterstrain can also be applied in combination with Trigger-point Technique thereby increasing the effectiveness of the latter. This is demonstrated during this mainly practical course where students have plenty of time to practice the techniques.

Course Content

Studies commence at 9.00 a.m. and finish at 5.30 p.m.

Strain/Counterstrain is applicable to a large range of musculoskeletal dysfunctions. It is used for the effective alleviation of chronic muscular spasm and related pain.

Spasm reduction and normalisation of muscle-tone is achieved by the placement of the client's extremity or trunk into positions of greatest comfort. Each position is specific to the treated muscle. The position is maintained for a short period of time to inhibit the hyperactive nervous system activity producing the painful muscle-spasm.

Topics addressed include:
  • Strain/Counter-strain Techniques
  • Palpation
  • Cautions & Contra-indications
  • Muscular System Philosophy of Change
  • Chinese Self-Massage

Many Associations accept our courses for CPD including the IFPA (6 Category A Points).

Course Certificates are awarded to completing Students.
