Course programme

Explores the development of Asian art forms as well as the ways in which various religions have affected that development.

Lectures and handling sessions explore the various materials and techniques that have characterised Asian art, including calligraphy, painting, woodblock printing, bronze, jade and lacquer. Lectures examine and set in context the art of India (selective), Islam, China, Korea and Japan. These are supported by frequent visits to exhibitions and private viewing sessions in major museums in London. The programme culminates in a study visit to Europe.

This programme can be taken as a prelude to the MA in East Asian Art, but it is also an ideal introduction to the subject of Asian art in its own right.
