Subject Knowledge Enhancement (SKE) courses are for pre-Initial Teacher Training (ITT) students who are in need of development of subject knowledge before starting ITT. All courses aim to provide participants with key areas of knowledge and understanding of their subject needed to teach the school curriculum in their subject area. They are for those starting PGCE, School Direct Tuition and School Direct Salaried courses.

The Drama booster course will address key aspects of subject knowledge required during the Drama PGCE course. Whether this is revision or aspects of the subject you have not previously covered, the course will support your personal subject development and reading in preparation for the start of the PGCE.

About this course

To have gained sufficient subject knowledge and understanding related to the concepts and terminology of grammar to begin Secondary Drama teacher training.

Not be going onto an undergraduate course.
Not already hold qualified teacher status.
Have an offer to start teacher training in Drama in the next academic year.

Course programme

Day 1: The Practitioners

The day will be formed around a practical exploration of the following practitioners:

· Stanislavski

· Brecht

· Artaud

· Boal

You will also be provided with teaching notes from the day and resources that you may be able to use in school.

Day 2: Romp Through History

The overall aim for the day is to provide a perspective of how drama and theatre developed over time in Europe and on our own shores. Exploration will focus on main historical eras with examples of materials and extracts from plays relating to that era. Exploration will again be focused within a drama workshop with additional teaching notes and resources to cover the following:

· Greek Drama

· Medieval Mystery Plays/Miracle plays

· Elizabethan/Jacobean

· Restoration Drama

· Melodrama

· Modern Theatre
