About this course

No previous experience or qualifications are necessary. It is advised that learners have a minimum of level 1 in literacy or numeracy or equivalent.

On successful completion of the course, the delegate will receive a Substance Misuse Awareness Level 1 certificate. I have been a trainer for 10 years. I train a variety of subjects, including security, licensing, first aid and teacher training. I have worked in the security industry for over 20 years, in various disciplines, including Close Protection, Door Supervision and as a CCTV operative. I utilise a variety of training techniques to ensure every learner feels included within the classroom environment.

  • The reasons why people use substances.
  • An understanding of the harmful effects of substance misuse on individuals & society.
  • The possible signs of substance misuse.
  • The types of substances misused and examples of each.
  • The effects of substance misuse socially and personally.
  • Where help and advice can be sought.
  • The perceptions and responses to substance misuse.
How the qualification is assessed

The course is run at a training room over 1 day. The qualification is assessed by a written work book. Learners will need to complete the assessment pack in full. Once you have completed the assessment pack the tutor will mark it and, if it has passed, will send it to HABC for moderation.
