The superintendent is a qualification of the State Police, the Penitentiary Police Corps, the State Forestry Corps. This qualification is higher than the deputy superintendent and subordinate to the chief superintendent. The superintendent holds the position of Judicial Police officer and public security officer. The term superintendent also refers to officials with variable duties. The office to which they are in charge is called superintendency (or superintendency). In the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities the supervisors are managers in charge of peripheral offices, the superintendencies; these can be for archaeological assets, for architectural and landscape assets, for historical assets, artistic and ethno-anthropological or archival and are coordinated by the regional directorates for cultural and landscape heritage (despite the adjective "regional" they are offices of the Ministry not of the region) headed by a director, who is the general manager. In Sicily, a region with a special statute, the superintendencies of cultural heritage depend directly on the Department of Cultural Heritage and the Sicilian identity of the Region. The title of superintendent is used in some jurisdictions to designate police officers. In Great Britain and other Anglo-Saxon countries it is attributed to officials who hold ranks similar to those of senior officers of the armed forces (in some United States police forces, such as those of Chicago and New Orleans, it designates the top official).
