Warehouse Operatives work in a variety of warehouse environments. Work activities include taking deliveries, checking for damaged/missing items, storing goods, moving stock by various methods, picking/packing orders, loading goods for dispatch, maintaining stock records and documentation, and cleaning. Warehouse operatives are required to safely use a range of equipment, machinery and vehicles, as relevant to their role and setting. This could include mechanical racking systems, materials handling equipment (MHE) or fork lift trucks.As a Warehouse operative you will communicate with a wide range of people and customers, and meet customers expectations by providing a quality service that encourages repeat business. Individuals working in this role are highly competent in using industry-recognised systems and associated services (eg Traffic/Warehouse Management Systems) and will be able to work under pressure to tight deadlines.

What will I study on the course?

You will learn about:

- Warehouse practices and processes - including deliveries, dispatch, maintaining records, moving stock, packing and storing goods

- Using warehouse equipment, machinery and vehicles - including mechanical racking systems and materials handling equipment (MHE) such as forklifts and pallet trucks

- Using basic IT - including barcoding, data capture, radio and warehousing management software and systems

- Communicating effectively with colleagues, customers, third party carriers and other organisations

- Health and safety practices, procedures and regulations within a warehouse environment - including safe driving and operating techniques and working safely at heights

Additional information

Your Skills Coach will develop a personalised learning plan with you at the start of your Apprenticeship which will identify key milestones and learning objectives.The programme will consist of 1:1 coaching and teaching, and may include written assignments, research and projects.
