Supporting Individuals with Learning Difficulties BTEC Level 2 Award

The Supporting Individuals with Learning Difficulties BTEC Level 2 Award course is the perfect professional development qualification. It provides essential knowledge and skills for anyone who supports individuals with learning difficulties.

The Level 2 Award in Supporting Individuals with Learning Disabilities is aimed at those people wishing to gain employment as a classroom assistant or are already employed to obtain a nationally recognised qualification in supporting learning.

The course is designed for people already employed as a Learning Support Assistant or Practitioner in any age setting seeking to obtain a national recognised qualification or those people wishing to obtain a qualification prior to seeking employment.

• To identify and explain the impact of disability on inclusion, autonomy and individual needs


• About the autistic spectrum conditions and explore themes such as individuality, communication and person centred support.


• To understand the importance of effective communication and person centered support


• Develop an understanding of the medical and social model of disability

The modules will be assesssed by your tutor through a range of assessment methods via a portfolio.

At Colchester institute you will benefit from small classes and an experience and enthusiastic tutor. 1-to-1 tutorials are available each term.

Study in a class that fits in with your work commitments.

Applicants should be at least 16 years old.

You will need to be working or volunteering as you will need to have experience as well as knowledge and skills.

Work in a school or college setting with student with learning disabilities.
