This qualification will provide an understanding of the knowledge and skills needed when working directly with children or young people in primary, secondary or schools for specialist support. They include learning about children and young people’s development, safeguarding their welfare and communication, supporting literacy and numeracy and schools as organisations.
Learners will need to be working or volunteering in a school environment as they will need to show competence in both knowledge and skills. We can help you find a placement and support you to develop the necessary skills.

The course combined theory and practical work in a range of units including; Schools as Organisations Learning activities for children Supporting assessment for Learning Safeguarding Understanding Child Development This course will develop your skills as a teaching assistant within the school to support children to learn and develop effectively. You will learn how to keep children safe and protected, and how to support positive behaviour. You will learn how to develop professional relationships with the workforce within schools, and how to work with parents and children in partnership. You will be assisting the teacher in preparing and delivering learning activities for children in primary or secondary education You can progress onto the Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools, or the Foundation Degree in Learning Support. You could become a Teaching Assistant, a Senior Learning Support Assistant , Senior Special Educational Needs Assistant, or a Learning Mentor If you are aged 19 or over and considering enrolling on a further education course at Level 3 or above, you may be entitled to an Advanced Learner Loan to help with course fees. You can apply for a loan now for courses starting on or after 1 August 2016, it’s easy to apply online and repayments are simple. Your household income isn’t taken into account and there are NO credit checks involved.
