About this course

The modular nature of this programme allows it to be tailored to the unique needs of individual students, with the possibility to gain a PG Certificate, PG Diploma or MSc in Surgical Innovation: The Certificate will equip the surgeon with much-needed skills for the current NHS environment The Diploma builds upon this knowledge and allows practicing health care professionals to discover innovations in their chosen field The MSc will allow further investigation into innovative techniques by completing research The clinical specialty streams are in line with the current trend in surgical subspecialisation.  

All applicants must apply online. You can usually apply for up to two courses, although your second choice will only be considered if your first-choice application is unsuccessful. Course programme

The Certificate consists of 4 core modules:

  • Principles of Surgery
  • Surgical Education
  • Leadership, safety, and quality
  • Technological innovation

The Diploma builds on these core modules with the chance to specialise in one of the following streams:

  • Bariatrics
  • Colorectal Surgery
  • Oseophago-gastric Surgery
  • Orthopaedic Surgery
  • Vascular Surgery

Two specialist modules and a literature review are required for this qualification.

To complete the MSc, there is a research component in addition to the taught component of the Certificate and Diploma.
