Course Overview
Sustainable Engineering is the process of using energy and resources at a rate that does not compromise the natural environment, or the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

As technology has advanced and people have become more aware of the impact of engineering on the enviroment, engineers have had to look at processes and manufacturing and consider how they can limit the impact engineering causes to our world and environment. This is an emerging area of study and provides students with invaluable insights into how engineering is changing, and will continue to change, as engineers search for greener ways to carry out their work.

Given the concern for the environment and the need to develop renewable energy in the UK, there is expected to be a continuous demand for suitably qualified professionals.

This course focuses on engineering in the context of the growing concern for the environmental, social and economic impacts. In this degree you will study the environmental management of engineering processes and the sustainable design of engineering products.

What will I study?
In the first year you will study underpinning engineering knowledge and also gain a HNC qualification.
The second year includes energy resources, renewable energy, sustainable development and materials.
The final year includes environmental management, design for manufacture and sustainable design. Students will be involved in sustainable engineering design and development projects throughout the course.

Course Requirements
You need 160 UCAS points, with the majority obtained in relevant subjects such as Engineering, Physical Sciences and Mathematics. Applicants with between 80 and 160 UCAS points are advised to apply either for the HND Mechanical Engineering course or for the HND Electrical / Electronic Engineering course. It is possible to progress from either of these courses onto the BEng (Hons) Sustainable Engineering degree course. If you already have Higher Education experience then it is possible to join the second or third year of the course.
