About this course
Candidates for all of our M.Th. degrees normally need an upper-second Honours degree in Divinity, Religious Studies or the equivalent. Students whose mother tongue is not English also require IELTS 6.5 including writing score 6.0; or TOEFL score of 580 (computer-based TOEFL 237) with TWE 4.5, or equivalent as a condition of entry.

Course programme
Students in the programme will study the history of Christian doctrine in the modern era, examine the overall structure of Systematic Theology and explore one key doctrinal theme in detail. There is also opportunity for elective study in the fields of biblical, historical and practical theology.
Programme Content
The degree consists of the following five components:
I. Two courses required of all those pursuing taught Master’s degrees in Divinity and Religious Studies:
- Method in Theology (10 credit points) - Introducing research methods in the theological disciplines.
- Dissertation Colloquium (10 credit points) - A skills-based workshop preparing students for the writing of the supervised dissertation.
II. Three core courses
- Systematic Theology Since the Enlightenment (20 credit points)
- Principles of Systematic Theology (20 credit points)
- The Doctrine of the Trinity (20 credit points) or Trinity and Christology (20 credit points)
III. Two further electives (20 credit points each) which may be taken from the range of courses offered within the Master’s programmes in Biblical Theology, Catholic Studies, Church History, Practical Theology and Ethics, or Jewish Studies.
IV. A Dissertation of approximately 15,000 words on a topic related to the degree (60 credit points)
V. Students are also expected to attend and participate in one of the weekly postgraduate seminars in Theology which run during the academic term.

Examinations and continuous assessment for all course elements of the programme.
