Teaching is both an attractive and versatile profession as well as challenging and demanding. The JKU provides budding educators with a professional academic environment to pursue a hands-on, practice-oriented and science-based teaching degree. Students enrolled in the Bachelor's degree program Teacher Education Studies Secondary Education (General Education) can choose either two teaching subjects or one teaching subject and specialize in "Inclusive Education". Graduates of the undergraduate and graduate degree programs are qualified to teach at the new middle schools (NMS), at general secondary schools (AHS schools), vocational secondary or secondary schools (such as HAK, HAS, HLW, HTL school), polytechnic schools (PTS), as well as special education schools in Austria.

About this course
The Bachelor's degree program in Teacher Education Studies Secondary Level (General Education) has been designed train future educators in a wide range of fields including science, didactics, education and developmental psychology. The curriculum focuses on acquiring a broad variety of knowledge and skills:
Basic theories as well as research approaches and findings
Methods and media to design classroom lessons
Hone social skills
Fundamental, self-reflective positioning and attitude
General higher education entrance qualifications (such as an Austrian “Matura” diploma.
After completing the Bachelor's degree program, students can pursue a Master's degree in Teacher Education Studies Secondary Level in Linz.

The Bachelor's degree program in Teacher Education Studies Secondary Education (General Education) stipulates that two subject areas must be combined. The courses at the JKU - in addition to educational sciences - focus on these subject areas in particular:

JOB OPPORTUNITIES
Depending on the individual subjects you select, your degree qualifies you to teach at new secondary schools (NMS), general secondary level schools (AHS), (vocational middle or secondary schools (such as HAK, HAS, HLW, HTL schools), and polytechnic schools (PTS) in Austria. Other professions include training educators in the area of adult education, writing textbooks, supervising education in an extracurricular field (in research and evaluation in the educational field and much more).
Additional information
Preparation Courses (to teach Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science and Informatics Management): These courses have been designed for new students and provide a condensed review of material taught at higher levels schools in order to prepare students for initial university-level lectures. Attendance is optional.
Mentoring Program (to teach Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science and Informatics Management): JKU faculty members meet with newly enrolled students in small groups and provide tips and advice pertaining to studies.
