Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools Certificate (QCF Level 3) Course The NCFE Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools course is aimed at anyone looking to work in supporting teaching and learning in schools, for example as a teaching assistant. The primary function of a teaching assistant is to support the teacher in the classroom to ensure the pupils are able to derive the most benefit from each lesson. Our teaching and learning course focuses on understanding, supporting, safeguarding and developing children and young people. It not only covers the theoretical knowledge underpinning the work of a teaching assistant, but it also requires a practical and competence-based element giving you the opportunity to conduct some of your learning in the workplace. Upon successful completion of our NCFE Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools Level 3 course you will receive a qualification listed on the QCF (Qualifications and Credit Framework) at level 3 (Qualification Reference Number: 501/0403/2). This course has been assigned 32 credits. 50-Hour Placement In order to successfully complete this NCFE Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools qualification you are required to complete a work placement of at least 50 hours. The placement is compulsory for this course and the student is responsible for arranging their placement. Along with their first set of course materials, students will receive a comprehensive guide giving them plenty of information on what is required of them during the placement, how to set up the placement and the types of activities that they will be required to complete on the placement (including examples of the types of paperwork that will need to be submitted to your tutor for evidence). Unit 1: Schools as organisations

  • Understand the expected pattern of development for children and young people from birth - 19 years
  • Understand the factors that influence children and young people’s development and how these affect practice
  • Understand how to monitor children and young people’s development and interventions that should take place if this is not following the expected pattern
  • Understand the importance of early intervention to support the speech, language and communication needs of children and young people
  • Understand the potential effects of transitions on children and young people’s development

Unit 3: Communication and professional relationships with children, young people and adults

  • Understand the principles of developing positive relationships with children, young people and adults

  • Understand legislation, policies and procedures for confidentiality and sharing information, including data protection

Unit 4: Understand How to Safeguard the Wellbeing of Children and Young People

Study Hours

This is only an approximate figure and is dependant upon how much time you can dedicate to your studies and how well you grasp the learning concepts in the course material. Furthermore, at the end of each lesson there is a question paper that needs to be completed and returned to your tutor. You should allow at least 1 - 2 hours of study to complete each question paper.
