Course programme
This one day course is intended to give guidance on the latest requirements for Temporary Works Coordinators and the procedural control of ALL temporary works to the latest BS 5975:2010. It will also update delegates on today’s use of temporary works in building and civil engineering, and in particular give a basic understanding of stability.
The role of the TWC is central to the successful implementation of temporary works hence the specific role and duties of those so appointed needs to be clearly understood, both by those appointed in this role and those working with the appointed person.
The HSE have expressed concerns about the implementation of the requirements of BS5975, in particular for smaller contracting and sub-contracting organisations.
The course is aimed at giving an awareness of temporary works and will not involve structural calculations. Extensive handouts will be issued to reduce note taking, and the course is well illustrated.
Course Outline:
Introduction to Temporary Works; Role and Responsibilities of the Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC); Temporary Works Coordination / Management; The rationale behind BS5975 - the code of practice for falsework; Overview of possible risks and failures in typically encountered temporary works - Formwork, Falsework, Back-propping, Scaffolding, Earthworks, Excavations, etc
