This specialist course is aimed at students who wish to pursue their creativity through textile techniques. It is designed to help you to develop a wide range of textile skills and will enable you to prepare a portfolio of work suitable for entry into an art or design based textiles degree.
On this course you will be able to study:
- machine embroidery
- fabric printing
- constructed textiles
- costume design
It is an art-based course and, as in the other art and design courses on offer, you will be expected to produce observation drawings and designs and to keep sketchbooks of your research and ideas. This would be a useful course for anyone interested in pursuing a career in the world of fashion and textiles, surface design, theatre design or interior design.
Many students from the department go onto art foundation and degree courses. A good range of practical work is one of the essential requirements for entry into higher education and throughout both the AS and the A2 courses you will work towards producing a portfolio of work based on your skills and ideas.
