- A modern interpretation of the ancient craft of printing natural dyes onto fabric
- Explore ideas for printing sustainably by using low-tech methods; mono-printing and cut-paper stencils
- Learn how to screen print onto a wide range of natural fabrics; linen, cotton, wool, and silk
- The structure of the course is ideal for beginners, or professionals whose skills may need updating
- Each session will involve demonstrations of techniques, to enable students to mordant fabric safely, and use natural dye extracts.
-There will be plenty of opportunities to explore design ideas, and practice printing sample pieces of fabric
- We will look at creating individual colour palettes, to make this a very personal project
- By the end of the course you will have printed a number of samples, and started to make a unique natural print reference book.

About this course

- Hand screen print fabrics with your own design, using natural dyes
- Describe how to use mordants and natural dyes in a safe way
- Produce prints, in a range of colours, onto a variety of natural fabrics
- Make a natural dye print reference book.

Colour inspiration, to inform your personal colour palette.
A sketchbook, or other visual reference material to inspire the shapes and imagery printed.
All basic materials will be provided, but you may wish to bring a couple of extra pieces of natural fabric (cotton, linen, silk, wool) to supplement and add contrast to the fabric provided.
Apron and gloves (there are some available to borrow)
Wear sturdy shoes and old clothes – be prepared to get messy!

- Practical demonstrations to the group, and to individuals.
- A mix of individual tuition and group discussions.
- Visual examples of natural dye prints and colours will be available to study.
- There will be hand-outs of the recipes, and supplier’s details.
