What are the main features of this course?
The first year is the AS level course and covers working in groups and developing social and practical skills. You will gain an understanding of the nature of drama and the position of the arts within society. You will also study a number of dramatic texts, considering themes and issues raised, the structure of the plays and the use of language. You will learn about the technical aspects of theatre and the performance process. Students who want to achieve the A Level then take the second year, which builds on the first year's work, and develops the practical skills and theoretical knowledge further. You will work with professional artists and in collaboration with Arts organisations.

How is the course assessed?
The course is made up of modules. Candidates must achieve 3 assessment units for AS Level plus 3 more assessment units for A level. Assessment units may be taken in January or June, subject to availability. The normal pattern will be completion of the AS at the end of the first year and A Level at the end of the second year of study. There is one practical unit and two written papers, comprising 100% of the total AS marks and 50% of the total A level marks. For the A Level the pattern is AS plus one practical unit and two written papers, comprising 50% of the total A Level marks.
