This course enables you to experience a wide range of backstage roles in the theatre and is designed for students wishing to make their career in the theatre or related industries. The course gives you the opportunity to develop your skills with real production experience of the backstage roles that are essential for the staging of a successful performance.
You will gain insight into the different career paths available in this busy and exciting industry and will build a portfolio of work to showcase your talents for future educational or employment opportunities.
This course is aimed at students with a particular interest in stage costume, hair and make up for performance. You will need Art and Design experience as many of the projects have a design bias. Course programme

You will develop your Production Arts skills initially with classroom activities and will progress to working on real productions given by the Leeds City College Performing Arts students. You will design hair, costume and make-up for shows and will work closely with the cast members to realise your designs for the stage. During show weeks you will experience the fast pace of a real working theatre environment with the opportunity to experience additional roles such as Stage Management, Props, Front of House and Box office. Be prepared for exciting challenges, for hard work and long hours as you manage all the backstage requirements of a real live show performed to a paying audience. As you develop your own individual talents and interests you will gain an appreciation of the importance of team work in the creative industries.
