What you need to know
How will I study?

The course is two years long and you will undertake a range of projects that aim to develop the fundamental skills necessary for working in planning. You will study two qualifications, Btec level 3 Diploma in Town Planning technical Support + ABBE level 3 NVQ in Town Planning Technical Support, plus the necessary maths and English. The Btec diploma is one day a week in college, and in the first year of the programme you will extend your knowledge of CAD, the built environment, sustainable development, permitted development/ building regulation along with town planning policies and framework. Then into the second year you will study health & safety, employment and business communication and topographical surveying.
How will I be taught?

You will be taught for 1 day a week in college, covering the Level 3 Diploma in Town Planning technical support. The ABBE NVQ Diploma is taught in the workplace, and assessed by the college’s nominated assessor. This qualification has five pathways, of which there are mandatory and optional units to complete. Your workplace mentor and college assessor are there to guide you. For the NVQ part of the qualification, the college’s assessor will visit you in the work place at regular intervals.
How will I be assessed?

Assessment is via practical coursework and project submissions that are continuously reviewed and monitored by course lecturers and an internal verification team. You will be provided with continuous formal and informal developmental feedback, providing guidance on how to complete & pass the course
