    Short course

Support for agriculture in Europe occurs in the context of pillar 1 and pillar 2 of the Common Agriculture Policy. In the UK, pillar 1  support will be provided through the basic payment scheme from  2015 to 2019. Since October 2015, Pillar 2 support in England  occurs through a new Countryside Stewardship Scheme. This  includes provision for support for woodland planting, woodland  management, and hedgerow planting. However the eligibility for  woodland planting requires a minimum stand density of 400 trees  per hectare. There are options for the maintenance of parklands,  but not for their creation.
