The Professional Practice course is intended as a vocational qualification within the construction industry. It satisfies the educational base for becoming a Licentiate Member of the Institute of Clerk of Works and Construction Inspectorate.
In addition, it provides a progression route onto further professionally accredited courses within the School including the BSc (Hons) degrees of Building Surveying, Construction Management, Commercial Management & Quantity Surveying and Quantity Surveying.

About this course
The course is delivered through two modes of delivery, on-line or through in-company face-to-face delivery.
This unique course runs once a year in October and consists of one 20 credit module delivered by online tutors from the University of Wolverhampton through distance learning. There is no requirement to attend the University in person. One of the benefits of distance learning is that the course can be undertaken from the comfort of your home or workplace.
This module is aimed towards individuals who are employed as Construction, Engineering, Electrical, Mechanical industries (e.g. trade workers, site operatives or site managers), those employed in Construction Quality Control or those who wish to progress to a Site Inspection role. During the course the student will create a portfolio presenting all work carried out through the period of the module that shows evidence of a range of construction processes, including a critique of safety issues. The successful completion of this portfolio will qualify you for your interview for Licentiate Membership of the ICWCI, or for existing Licentiate members, provide evidence of Continual Professional Development towards your Full Membership interview.

This module aims to develop your ability to identify, investigate and report on an agreed construction situation encountered in the workplace.
The Institute of Clerks of Works and Construction Inspectorate have worked with the University of Wolverhampton to create an ICWCI accredited module leading towards both Licentiate and/or Full membership of the ICWCI. This is the only course of its type internationally.
Successful completion of this course makes the student eligible for either their licentiate interview with the ICWCI or their interview for full membership if they are an existing member. Upon completion of the module you will receive a certificate of achievement. This provides confirmation of your attainment of 20 credits of Higher Educational study with the University of Wolverhampton. This would make you eligible to continue your studies towards a Foundation Degree and BSc (Hons) Degree within the Built Environment at the University of Wolverhampton.

Financial Hardship:
Students can apply to the Dennis Turner Opportunity Fund for help with course related costs however this cannot be used for fees or to cover general living costs.
