With a Jewish studies minor, you’ll study the world of Jewish culture — one of the major crossroads of civilization and history — from the perspective of multiple disciplines. Jewish studies courses cover topics including Semitic languages and Hebrew bible; medieval and modern Hebrew literature; European and Middle Eastern Jewish history from the ancient period through the 20th century; dynamics of migration, diaspora and community; the figure of the Jew in modern politics and literature; and Holocaust studies.

Course programme
Cornell University undergraduates with an interest in Semitic languages, the Hebrew Bible, medieval and modern Hebrew literature and film, ancient, medieval and modern Jewish history, Holocaust Studies, Jewish ethnography, world Jewish literature, and Yiddish culture are invited to complete a minor in Jewish Studies.
A minimum of four Jewish Studies courses are required to complete the minor. No course may be used to satisfy two requirements and S–U grade option is not permitted. The following parameters must be met:
- JWST 2644 - Introduction to Judaism
- JWST 2651 - Judaism, Christianity, and Islam
- JWST 2676 - Holy War, Crusade and Jihad in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam
- An equivalent introductory survey in Jewish Studies approved by the Director, Jonathan Boyarin.
- Must fall within one of the two following periods: 3000 BCE to 600 CE; and 600 CE to present.
- Topical courses taught in Hebrew or other languages may be used to fulfill this requirement
