In this module, the emphasis will be placed on doing all we can to ensure that the experiences of people with dementia are at the heart of care practice. You will be encouraged to draw on a variety of methods to facilitate the voice of a person with dementia to be heard and to influence quality of life for that person.
The module is assessed by means of two assignments: a report on your investigation of quality of life carried out with one person with dementia, and a presentation of your findings designed for a selected audience in order to improve that person’s care.
This module aims to provide students with a critical understanding of the experience of a range of influences (biological, psychological and social) on the experience of dementia.
It also aims to provide a critical appreciation of the experiences of a person with dementia and those of their informal and formal caregivers and how these combine to contribute to the overall experience of living with dementia.
