Course programme

For any career in fashion an understanding of fabrics is a must. This fabric construction course is a follow-on from 'Fibres & fabrics' and looks at how the construction of different fabrics helps to determine their characteristics, quality and cost. You will gain an understanding of the production processes of weaving and knitting, including dobby and jacquard weaving and weft and warp knitting and the related terminology will be explained. This will give you the knowledge you need to grow your own creativity and explore the different uses of a wider variety of fabrics.

The basic weave and knit structures will be examined and a wide range of yarns and fabrics, including woven, knitted and non-woven fabric constructions will be available for you to study and experiment with.

Level:

Beginners/Intermediate. This course is suitable for anyone who needs a more detailed understanding of fabrics.
