Vehicle Body Restoration - Customizing, Concourse & Classics IMI Who is this course for?
This is an interesting and exciting course aimed at students of all ages who wish to gain skills in vehicle customizing and restoration. The course is designed to give car owners or prospective car owners an insight into car restoration. The course is also suitable for those wishing to maintain older vehicles.
What are the entry requirements?
For this course the entry requirements are GCSEs in English, Maths and Science at grade C or above. Other qualifications to be discussed at interview. Mature students are encouraged to apply and will be accepted on an individual basis. All applicants will have an informal interview, please enquire if you are at all unsure as to your suitability.
What will I be doing on the course?
On this course you will gain practical skills relevant to this industry. One day of the course is theory-based, the rest is practical, the course aims to provide the knowledge and practical hand skills that will be required to undertake the restoration of classic and modern vehicles, approximately 70 percent of the course is practical and you will cover all aspects of vehicle restoration including; Mechanical and electrical systems, Welding and fabrication, Construction of body components, Vehicle painting and Vehicle trimming skills.
How do I study the course?
This course is 1 year in length and you will attend college for 4 days a week, the 5th day can be used for work based learning. Each unit will be assessed by a series of practical tasks, requiring you to demonstrate competence to a professional level.
*If you are under 19 courses are usually FREE, however, there are some exceptions ie: Professional Accredited Courses (AAT,etc), Microsoft Academy and various short courses. Over 19s will be expected to pay a course fee, however, many people qualify for fee reductions, particularly those in receipt of benefits such as Job Seekers Allowance, Housing Benefit or Income Support. What can I do after this course?
After successful completion of this course you may wish to seek employment or want to progress to level 2 of this course. You can of course continue onto another course from the range on offer by the Automotive Centre here at Cornwall College Camborne.
Information regarding fees/costs
Boots and overalls must be worn in our workshops, these can be purchased from the centre for approximately £38. You can supply your own but please check with your tutor before purchase to ensure that they meet the required standard. There are additional costs of £52 for materials. All prices are approximate. Over 19's will also need to pay registration and exams at the point of entry.
Concessions
No tuition fees are charged for students under the age of 19 on the 31st August. Students over the age of 19, approximately £127.00 provided you bring in proof of an acceptable qualifying benefit on enrolment.
