This course is for students who have gained a level 2 vehicle maintenance and repair diploma or sub diploma qualification.  The course builds on the skills learnt at Level 2 and majors on the diagnostics and repair of vehicle faults.  It will involve both knowledge (classroom) and skills (workshop) sessions.

What modules are covered?

Job roles in the automotive environment

Inspecting light vehicles using prescribed methods

Diagnosis and rectifcation of vehicle auxiliary electrical faults

Diagnosis and rectification of light vehicle engine faults

Diagnosis and rectification of light vehicle chassis system faults

Diagnosis and rectification of light vehicle transmission and driveline faults

What qualifications will I get?

IMI Level 3 Diploma in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair

How will I be assessed?

Assessment will be via practical assignments, written phase tests, external exams and porfolios.

What is the entry process?

College application and by interview. .

What are the entry requirements?

Minimum qualifications: Full level 2

IMI L2 in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair or equivalent and GCSE grade D in English & Maths or L2 Functional Skills.

Mature students working in the industry will be considered for direct entry.

What else do I need to know?

During the course you will be encouraged to find work placements and apprenticeship opportunities.  There will be additional sessions helping you prepare for the workplace and find work opportunities..

English and Maths

English and maths qualifications are vitally important for future employers and universities, so the government has made it a priority for students to improve these skills.

Entry Level / Level 1 and Level 2: We’re here to help you on your journey, so if you do not achieve grade A*-C in GCSE English and/or maths, then you will study English and/or maths as part of your college course.

Students who achieve a D grade will be placed on the relevant GCSE programme, while students who achieve an E or below will be assessed to ensure they are placed on the right study programme for their ability.

Level 3 programmes: You will need to meet the course entry requirements specified on the course information above. For the majority of our Level 3 courses, students will need grade A*-C in GCSE English and/or maths. If this is not specified in the course entry requirement, then you may be able to study English and/or maths as part of your college course.
