The presence of video surveillance cameras and biometric access control systems within all state administrations, not only within large companies of all levels, is allowed as long as it is motivated by specific needs, in agreement with the legislation on the Privacy of personal data. The term video surveillance refers to the activity of monitoring - generally a place or in any case a good - at a distance, through the use of strategically positioned cameras or other tools capable of offering the transmission of images. It is one of the fields that is experiencing continuous and constant development hand in hand with technological evolution. It is widely used in the private security sector. Usually a video surveillance system consists of cameras and an NVR recorder, on whose hard disk the images of the cameras themselves can be stored with different operating modes (continuously, only on movement, time-dependent, etc.). If set, it is possible to use the images captured by the cameras remotely in real time, however this function requires an internet connection of the devices always present and active: in the absence of connection to the public IP network - even momentary, the use of remote is not possible. A video surveillance system is often associated with an anti-theft alarm system to which it is complementary, since it allows a synergy between the need for protection (anti-intrusion offered by the alarm system) and that of verifying what is reported by the anti-intrusion / anti-theft system itself. Therefore the purpose and functions of a normal video surveillance system are limited to a verification of the signals generated by an intrusion alarm system or to a consultation, often posthumously, of the events recorded by the system. video surveillance and the main regulatory references in this regard.
