Admission Requirements to the Major:
The Florida State University College of Nursing admits students to the ABSN program for the spring semester only and requires a special application with a deadline of July 15. All prerequisites must be completed with a final grade of B minus or higher prior to enrollment. The College of Nursing admits students based on the quality of the applicant’s previous academic achievement and the number of students who can be accommodated in the program.

Students will be selected based on the following criteria:
(1) Completion of a baccalaureate degree (or higher) from a regionally accredited college or university.
(2) Achieve at least a 3.2 (on a 4.0 scale) cumulative GPA on all college work attempted.
(3) Meet the Florida State University admission requirements for second degree seeking students.
(4) Achieve at least a 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) cumulative GPA on all science prerequisite courses taken in the last 10 years and a final grade of B minus or better in all Nursing prerequisite courses.
(5) Only one (1) prerequisite course is allowed to have been repeated and only one (1) time.

Availability of faculty and clinical resources will determine the number of students to be admitted. If admitted to the ABSN program, Nursing students are required to submit results of a health examination, immunization record, a two-year certification in CPR, criminal background check, and drug screening. Requirements

All required prerequisite courses must be completed by the end of the Summer term for admission to the following Spring semester.

As part of the admissions process, applicants that meet the minimum criteria will be required to attend a face-to-face, group interview during the Fall semester prior to Spring admission.

Major Program of Studies for the Accelerated Nursing (ABSN) program: (53 hours)
Expenses (subject to change): uniforms, lab coat, shoes, stethoscope and other accessories - $250; standardized testing program - $400; textbooks - $700 per semester average; clinical laboratory fee per credit hour - $100. Nursing majors are responsible for transportation expenses related to clinical experiences. They are also required to carry University health and accident insurance. Students may have scheduled clinical experiences outside the Tallahassee area, either during the week or on weekends. If the agency is located far enough away to require overnight accommodations, the cost of these arrangements is the responsibility of the student, as is the travel to and from the agency.
