VMSES/E for System Maintenance

Overview
To effectively install and service VM software, it is vital to understand how VMSES/E works.

Course objectives
This course is designed to not only cover the software installation and service processes, but also explain what is happening so that the attendee will feel confident to use VMSES/E.

By the end of this course you will have learned
The concepts of the VMSES/E product service database and the INSTALL, RECEIVE APPLY and BUILD processes. The concepts of PPFs and how to create overrides. The Software Inventory files and how to use VMFSIM and VMFINFO to extract service information. How to install new products and create their shared segments. How to install RSU and corrective PTF service. How maintaining multiple service levels can be used to backout incorrect service. How to create local fixes.

Pre-requisites
Experience of using a VM system equivalent to the VM/ESA Technical Support course. No previous VMSES/E experience is required, but would be useful.

• Recommended Service Upgrade (RSU)
• VMFPSU for planning, VMFINS install process and files used.
• COR Service
• A detailed look at VMFREC , VMFAPPLY and VMFBLD covering the processes and the files involved. How to backout COR service.
• Local Fixes
• How to create and implement local fixes to source-maintained files and replacement parts. This covers HCPRIO, SYSPROF EXEC and CMSINST saved segment.
