Who is this course for? The Vocational Life Skills programme is for students with moderate Learning difficulties working at Entry Level who want to develop skills for daily life. This course is also suitable for individuals who are undecided about what to do next or who want to improve their Basic Skills and career prospects.

Previous knowledge required: No previous knowledge is required for this course. At interview we will assess your level of ability, your support needs and your reasons for applying to make sue that the course is the most appropraite for your educational needs.

What will I study? You will take part in practical work in small groups. You will need to study 5 units to achieve the full qualification. There are eight different modules that you can choose from: Developing skills for daily life, Developing personal care and presentation skills, Using community facilities, Using your leisure time, Practical project work, Taking part in an enterprise activity, Developing creative skills and Keeping fit and healthy. You will also work to improve your communication skills, your number and computer skills and a variety of personal progression skills such as following instructions, keeping safe, taking part in activities, making choices, working with others and taking responsibility for personal belongings.

What else will I do? This course offers you the chance to be a member of your local college,a real opportunity to study in a mainstream environment but on a course thet meets your personal and particular needs.You will have the opportunity to take part in college events and educational visits while you develop your skills. This will help you prepare for life in your local community.

How will I be assessed? You will be assessed through observation of your course work through set tasks and from evidence in your course file.

What will I achieve? Your main Qualification will be the City and Guilds 3802 Personal Progression through Life and Work Skills at Entry Level 1 or 2. You may also achieve one or more of the following qualifications. City and Guilds 3340 Food Studies at Entry Level 1 or 2; City and Guilds 3340 Hospitality and Catering at Entry level 3; City and Guilds Adult Literacy ,Numeracy and ICT Quailfications at Entry level 1 ,2 or 3; NCON units at entry and pre - entry levels.

What can I do afterwards? You can move on from the Entry level 1 to the Entry leve 2 course or to the Entry level 3 Vocational Work Skills course or you can choose to enrol on another part time course within the College.

Materials required: You will need to bring pens, paper and a file to put your work in. If the course requires specific materials or ingredients eg. cookery and art courses then you will be asked to pay a small charge to cover the cost of these.
