Water Regulations Advisory Scheme (WRAS) Certificate
(Distance Learning and 1 day training and exams)

On 1st July 1999 local Water Byelaws in England and Wales were replaced by the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999.

This learning package will help plumbers update their knowledge of this important legislation which is used to control the installation and use of water supply systems. The WRAS package will help you to implement Water Regulations competently. This is applicable not only in new installation work, but also to ensure you are able to identify and rectify contraventions that you come across in existing water supply systems.

It is aimed at practicing plumbers who already have knowledge of hot and cold water systems. But is also an essential tool for those who are involved with the installation, design, or specification of water systems or with buildings containing water systems.

The WRAS training package will enable course participants to:

• become familiar with the contents of the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999;
  
• know how to comply with the Regulations in practice;
  
• be aware of the primary legislation underpinning the Regulations;
  
• have an understanding of the documents used to enhance and explain the meaning of the regulations and in particular the Regulators Specification on the prevention of backflow and the WRAS Water Regulations Guide;
  

The WRAS package
The WRAS training package contains an introductory booklet, 12 learning manuals and one support document in the form of a glossary of terms. The learning modules are supported by an introductory video outlining the contents of the regulations. Upon subscription to the training package you will be sent the introductory booklet which will be followed by the learning manuals.

The twelve learning units are:

• The Regulations (a detailed look at the regulations)
  
• Materials and substances in contact with water
  
• Requirements for water fittings
  
• Water system design and installation
  
• Commissioning (flushing, testing and sterilisation)
  
• Prevention of cross connection to unwholesome water
  
• Backflow prevention
  
• Cold water services
  
• Hot water services
  
• WCs, flushing devices and urinals
  
• Sanitary appliances and water for outside use.
  
  

Training and assessment
Having received the manuals you will have at least two weeks to work through all 12 manuals and prepare before the one day course which will comprise a half day of instruction and half day of assessments. (NB/ if you already have a Training Package we will deduct a sum from your course fee).

The assessment will consist of two multi-choice question papers, in one of which you will be able to refer to your Training Package manuals, and a practical test, where you will be asked to identify contraventions of the Regulations, which are shown on a video.
Successful candidates will receive a BPEC/Water Regulations Advisory Scheme (WRAS) Certificate.
