TRU's water treatment technology programs are designed to address the educational requirements of entry level operators in the water treatment and distribution industry. Programs offer a self-paced credential structure, where students can attain:
Certificate in Water Treatment Operations
Through its campus program TRU also offers a Diploma in Water and Wastewater Technology.
Please note: Students admitted prior to 2022 in the program will be given transition time to complete the courses and program under the previous structure if required or will be transitioned into the new program. Please contact your advisor to revise your program plan accordingly.

About this course
Typical employment examples include:
Water and distribution facilities at the private/regional or municipal levels
Water quality and environmental monitoring
Analysis of water samples in a laboratory setting
Water and wastewater treatment equipment services and product suppliers
Industrial water and wastewater treatment (e.g. mining, forestry, etc.)
Government facilities such as provincial and national parks, national defense and corrections
Grade 12 (or equivalent)
The programs also recognize past educational and work experience through prior learning assessment and recognition.

Course programme
The programs offer a flexible laddering structure. Students can choose to exit the program after completion of the first year of studies with a Certificate in Water Treatment Operations or can ladder into the campus diploma program in Water and Wastewater Technology. Students interested in laddering into the campus diploma program are required to complete two year-one wastewater courses offered through campus. The diploma program then offers students the option to progress into the Bachelor of Technology, Bachelor of Trades and Technology Leadership or the Bachelor of General Studies.
