Course programme

This programme gives students the opportunity to develop the creative skills, design awareness and technical aptitude to make sophisticated and eyecatching industry-standard websites. Intended for those primarily interested in design and interaction rather than code, the programme provides students with a hands-on approach to building websites, combining consideration of the design of a website, the creative and aesthetic use of web-design software and technical awareness in coding and mark-up. The programme is designed for those who have an active interest in web design but may not necessarily have studied it in the past. Students acquire skills in the use of professional software such as Adobe Dreamweaver, Illustrator, Indesign and Photoshop. Web theory, such as web standards, semantic mark-up, accessibility and usability, will be explored to ensure that websites not only look good, but are browser and platform compatible and adhere to professional usability and accessibility guidelines. The programme is multi-disciplinary, supporting students to combine imaging, type, video and animation elements with awareness of layout in addition to the use of specialist professional web-design skills such as XHTML, CSS and content management systems. It develops students’ understandings of the essential creative, technical and professional principles needed to produce web-design work. View 2015 Degree Show website
