ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
All students will be given a one week probation period where you will be assessed on; practical dexterity, numeric and literacy.

WHO IS THE COURSE FOR?
This course is for anyone wishing to gain the skills and knowledge required in order to weld safely

These have included in the past:
  • Welding for personal benefits (Hobbies)
  • Where welding is a requirement as part of personal working duties i.e. Auto-mechanics, Maintenance engineers
  • As the start towards a full technical apprenticeship
  • Managers that need to have a sound understanding of a range of welding process and safety requirements
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
This course will enable you to gain welding units towards a full level 2 qualification

Unit 1 Oxy-acetylene welding and cutting (8 weeks)

Unit 2 Manual Metal Arc Welding (8 weeks)

Unit 3 Metal Arc Gas Welding (8 weeks)

Unit 4 Tungsten Arc Gas Welding (8 weeks)

Unit 5 " Related welding studies (6 weeks)

To gain the full level 2 qualification you need to pass three welding theory and practical units plus the related welding studies mandatory unit. Any candidate wishing to undertake unit 4 -Tungsten Arc gas Shielded Welding must have already passed Unit 1 Oxy- Acetylene welding.

HOW WILL I LEARN?
The class is held during the evenings with 2 hours of theory work followed by two hours of practical work and assessment.

You will be asked to:

Participate in individual and group class activities, make notes, and produce simple drawings.

Approximately 2 hours per week of self study will be required

Learning assistance for both theoretical and practical work will be made available to identified students.

WHAT CAN THIS COURSE LEAD TO?
A full technical apprenticeship

Acceptance on to the National Certificate qualification.

Health and Safety rules must be obeyed at all times, these are posted in all workshop areas, and I ask that you follow these rules fully. They are designed to ensure the smooth and safe running of the course, both in the classroom and in the workshop.

SAFETY CLOTHING REQUIRED

Gauntlets, Gloves, Safety Glasses, Boiler Suit, Safety Boots and Overalls must be worn before the candidate will be allowed within the engineering workshop and all appropriate clothing as stated within the candidates safe systems of work must be worn at all times.
