The Welding and Fabrication Intermediate Apprenticeship programme is designed to give you the relevant training and education required to become a successful crafts person in the welding industries. Learning through practical and theory sessions at college is teamed with work-based experience and training in order to achieve a level 2 certificate in Welding and Fabrication.

About this course
Candidates should be suitably employed within the engineering industry, and be dedicated and committed to their study. Applicants will be required to attend an interview where they will also be required to sit a paper based trade test and basic skills assessments in literacy and numeracy. Candidates should also have 4 GCSEs (grades A*-D), or equivalent, including English, maths and science.

The Welding and Fabrication Intermediate Apprenticeship programme is designed to give you the relevant training and education required to become a successful crafts person in the welding industries. Learning through practical and theory sessions at college is teamed with work-based experience and training in order to achieve a level 2 certificate in Welding and Fabrication.
What will I learn?
The Welding and Fabrication Intermediate Apprenticeship course includes:
Performing Engineering Operations (PEO) units
- Working Safely in an Engineering Environment
- Using and Communicating Technical Information in eEgineering
- Identifying and Selecting Engineering Materials
Optional PEO units:
- A choice of three from 60 units, e.g. MAG/MIG/TAG
As part of the Apprenticeship framework you will also study Employment Rights and Responsibilities and Functional Skills in English, maths and ICT.
In order to achieve the NVQ part of an Apprenticeship, candidates will need to evidence that they can carry out various tasks and use various skills related to the trade whilst in the workplace.

Considering an apprenticeship?
Many young people look to an apprenticeship to gain valuable skills directly in the workplace.
You can apply for both an apprenticeship, and a full-time course as your back up,
but note that you will need to do some research to find an employer willing to take you on as an apprentice
if you do not already have one.

ensuring you complete section 4 of the form. In order to start your apprenticeship you must have an employer
ready to complete your apprenticeship with.
