Description
If you would like to study Welsh in a friendly department which has an excellent reputation for the quality of it's teaching and research, Swansea is the place for you. Our team of enthusiastic staff is eager to ensure that our students succeed academically and enjoy their time by the coast.
Most students who study Welsh at Swansea University follow a single honours degree (BA in Welsh) which is a full-time three year course. There is also an option to study part-time, which is usually a six year course.
The pathway for first language students is one which will develop our students' understanding, command and skills to produce graduates who have a thorough understanding and a firm grasp of the Welsh language, its literature and culture. Our graduates also possess valuable employability and creative skills to equip them for the increasingly competitive world of work. You will learn how to correct your own language, how to write to a high standard and how to give successful presentations. You will be taught in small groups, giving you the opportunity to get to know your lecturers and your fellow-students as you discover the richness of the Welsh culture.
As all Welsh graduates are expected to be able to communicate correctly and confidently, orally and in writing, all students (whether on a single honours or joint honours scheme) will study at least one mandatory language module each year throughout the course. In the first year, you will also have an opportunity to expand your vocabulary and develop the various skills you will need for the rest of the course, through discussing Welsh literature and culture, from the earliest periods right through to the twenty first century..
A number of options will be offered at levels 2 and 3, some literary, some with a linguistic tendency, some vocational and some which develop specific study skills
