Course programme
This course enables the student to learn the basic styling, dressing, application and maintenance of wigs used in Theatre production and Tv. The course is run by Rachel Pring, who has over 15 years experience of working on West End Shows. Subject to availability, Rachel will arrange work experience for the students to see first hand the workings of a professional wig room. We are the only Make up school to guarantee our Students all at least one day work placements within the industry. Wigs will be provided for the duration of the course.
Week 1 - 'Wig maintenance', including washing, cleaning, storage, blocking up, tools of the trade, preparation of hair for wig application, stocking caps, glue application, microphone application and the correct way to secure onto the head.
Week 2- 'Basic setting methods'- i.e rollering, hotsticks, waving.
Week 3 - 'Dressing out'. Creating the styles
Week 4- Hands on pin curling, stocking cap and microphone application for a 'full look'
Kit Required:
2 sets of heated rollers (flat with no prongs)
1 set of hotsticks
1 pin tail comb
1 dressing out comb
1 'Denman' soft paddle brush
1 wide toothed comb
1 vent brush
'kirby' grips
various sized pins
clear elastic bands for the hair
fine hair nets
1 pair of flesh coloured stockings (no lace tops!)
All the above can be purchased at Boots, Superdrug or Sally's. Heated rollers and hot sticks can be bought cheaply at Argos. Remember DO NOT buy rollers with the tiny prongs as they get stuck in the hair and cause damage to the wigs!
