Wine Tasting for Beginners
Who is this for?
This is a course for those who enjoy wine but have little or no previous wine knowledge.

What Will I Learn?
The course is designed to improve the enjoyment of wine through learning more about grape varieties and the styles produced in the major wine regions throughout the world. The evenings will be very informal and interactive so places are limited. This will allow for plenty of discussion and questions; particularly on the wines tasted.

Content of the Course
This is a course for those who enjoy wine but have little or no previous wine knowledge. Over the six weeks we will look at all the classic grape varieties seeking how to distinguish and describe wines. We will cover navigating restaurant wine lists, when and how to decant wine and how to detect wine faults. Time will also be given for discussion and questions; particularly on the wines tasted. The tutor has an extensive background inoenology and horticulture and is a recommended tutor with the Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET).
Please note that an extra payment of £28 for wine and a tasting glass will be collected by the tutor on the first evening.

Equipment Needed
Notepad and pen. An ISO tasting glass will be supplied to each learner.

None.

Assessment Details
Over the weeks, we will look at the classic grape varieties and wine components, navigating wine lists and matching with food, when and how to decant wine and detect wine faults. The course will be tutor led by informal lecture and discussion, handouts and wine tasting of 6 wines per week.

What Next?
By the end of the course, you will be able to discuss and select wines with confidence and be able to to take a more formal course such as those run by WSET (Wine and Spirit Educational Trust).
