Introduction:
This Word Processing (Advanced) qualification is an optional unit within the OCR (Oxford, Cambridge and RSA) Level 3 Certificate in Text Processing. It can be taken as a stand alone unit or as part of the OCR Level 3 Certificate, which has been designed to assess candidates` ability to apply advanced processing and production skills to produce a variety of complex business documents. In order to achieve the full Level 3 Certificate, candidates are required to achieve an options unit (such as this Word Processing unit) together with the Core Unit (Text Production - Advanced). If the Core Unit plus three optional units are achieved within a two-year period, candidates will be awarded an OCR Level 3 Diploma in Text Processing.

Study Mode & Location:
This 10 week part-time course will last for 3 hours per week. It will be held at Preston College, Fulwood Campus, St Vincent`s Road, Preston, PR2 8UR.

Course Content:
This course requires the production of four business documents using a word processor, to a standard that meets the business document production requirements of employment at senior level. The documents for production are: a multi-page report/article; a ruled A4 landscape table; a two-column article (newspaper style) and a letter or memo. You will work from a draft containing both handwritten/typewritten material and recalled text. This is a taught class with tutor input and individual learning plans. You will develop your skills using a computer based package and exercises are available to work on at home. It is imperative that you attend the class every week in order to be fully prepared for the external examination.

Assessment:
Assessment will be carried out through on-going tutor observation and marking of completed work, whilst the final assessment takes the form of an OCR set and marked examination. The examination period is 1 hour 45 minutes, in which time you are required to carry out all assessment tasks within the stated error tolerance. Results will be graded Distinction, Pass or Fail and the grade achieved will be stated on your certificate.

Careers & Progression Opportunities:
Successful completion of this course allows progression to other OCR units or to the full OCR Level 3 Certificate or Diploma in Text Processing.

You will need to have an informal interview with a Adult Admissions Adviser.
Many courses have limited places so please enquire as soon as possible. Following interview, the earliest you may enrol is mid-June.
