This course will be useful for those working in children's voluntary and statutory sectors. The course will familiarise participants with the key knowledge and skills required for working with fathers in social work contexts. You will be introduced to the rationale for working with fathers backed up by sector literature and research and to the key skills and practice models which may be used in individual or group based interventions.

About this course
The course is facilitated by experienced practitioners who have many years' experience of working with men in children's services, addressing abusive and neglectful fathering and enabling service users to be more child-centred in their parenting.

Day 1: Introduction to contemporary research and our rationale for working with fathers. Initial engagement and relationship building. Introduction to child-centred fathering.
Day 2: Challenging child maltreatment. Rebuilding trust and healing.
Day 3: Continuing skills practice. Developing individual and group programmes within children's services - systems thinking.
