Course Delivery:
Rather than being unit based, achievement of the qualification depends on the successful attainment of a number of credits as follows:
Level 3 Certificate
18 credits (11 of which must come from Level 3)
Level 4 Certificate
18 credits (11 of which must come from Level 4)
Each unit has a different number of credits attached to it and each credit = 10 hours of study. The number of credits attached to each unit will dictate the number of units that each candidate will need to achieve in order to get the qualification.
There are no mandatory units within the qualification and assessment methods are the same as those used for NVQ. Observations remain the main assessment method for all units.
The major difference is the replacement of separate performance criteria and knowledge statements with a “catch all” statement - “the candidate can...” This combines skills and knowledge into one set of statements which the assessor has to address in order to demonstrate the candidate’s competence.
