Course programme

TEXTILE

Learn basic hand and machine sewing techniques, including tacking, straight, zig zag and hem stitch. Develop skills to make new clothes, or mend and revamp garments. By the end of the workshop you will have made a cushion, soft toy or small bag.

CLAY WORK

Try some sculpting and hand building skills, plus learn about different types of clay. Make tiles, pots, portraits, brooches, hanging ornaments, tea light holders… almost anything! This workshop can be extended to cover ceramic hand-building techniques such as slabbing and pinching, modelling and coiling.

UP-CYCLING

Learn the basics of colour theory and design with one of OreKnot’s bespoke up-cycling workshops. Start the day creating your own chalk paint, prepare and paint your piece of furniture, then design and make a complementary textile piece to complete your very own bespoke work of art.

CARPENTRY

An opportunity to learn an array of woodwork skills, using a mixture of traditional hand tools and modern drills and saws. Make objects customarily constructed from seasoned pine, while learning how to use and care for chisels, saws, planes and spoke-shaves. During the workshop, try a variety of exercises from simple to advanced, using woodworking joints and tools.

MOSAICS

Mosaics is the art of creating images using small pieces of coloured glass, stone or other material, called tessera. This workshop introduces you to the craft and helps you design on paper, choose a colour scheme, transfer your design to a mosaic base, cut and shape, then place and adhere the tesserae on your chosen base, and grout and clean the finished product.

PAPERCRAFT

From simple gift wrap and card making to more complex print making, collage, paper jewellery design, decoupage and paper mache, our papercraft workshops give hands-on experience of working with texture and colour to design and create a range of practical and decorative items with your own personal touch.

JEWELLERY

Learn to make a lovely set of bespoke jewellery to take away in this fun-filled workshop. The focus of this class is creativity and fun while making a set of earrings, necklace and bracelet to match.

CREATIVE WRITING

Discover your own unique voice in this creative writing course. It provides an opportunity for all aspiring writers to develop the skills and techniques for writing fiction. Through games, group-writing and language-based activities you’ll learn writing in a range of styles, producing poetry, diary entries, letters, play-scripts and more.

HEALTh & WELL-BEING

Covering a range of techniques for improving your health and well-being, this workshop focuses on mindfulness, meditation, nutrition and drug and alcohol awareness, as well as providing a practical introduction to yoga and pilates.

CAD/CAM

This workshop gives you the opportunity to gain practical skills in the fields of making, computer-aided manufacture and rapid prototyping. Make personalised colourful vinyl selfies and art stickers and other custom products, designed and created yourself. Final products are literally works of art, mounted on acrylic, paper, cardboard or a t-shirt.

POWER TOOLS

This workshop covers how to use power tools in accordance with statutory requirements. Learn about tool changing, inspection and condition of equipment, guarding and safe operation, PPE requirements and wider operational hazards, as well as gaining hands-on experience following a range of practical

REVISIONS SKILLS

This workshop provides detailed information on a variety of techniques you can use to improve your study skills. The course also has advice on identifying and overcoming common study problems, managing your study workload and developing good time management skills, with plenty of practical revision advice and methods.
