Course programme

Nearly a quarter of all deaths involving vehicles at work occur during reversing. Many other reversing accidents do not result in injury but cause costly damage to vehicles, equipment and premises.

The shunting training course is aimed at nominated drivers or banksmen to give them a good understanding of:

  • Only reversing if it's really neccessary
  • Choosing a suitable area to reverse
  • Keep the reversing area free of pedestrians
  • Agreed system of signalling
  • Signaller visible to drivers at all times
  • Signaller stands in a safe position
  • The dangers caused by 'blind-spots'
